Salazar Slytherin was one of the four great wizards and witches who jointly built Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. The other founders, Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, and Rowena Ravenclaw, did not agree with Slytherin’s views on the students; that they should only teach those from all magical families. Disgrunteled by constant arguements with Godric Gryffindor about the eligibilty of their pupils, Salazar Slytherin left the school.

Before leaving the school Salazar had built what he called the Chamber of Secrets. This chamber housed a dangerous monster, whom Salazar Slytherin hoped would rid Hogwarts of muggle born students. The only people able to unlock the Chamber of Secrets would be one of Salazar Slytherin’s decendents. The one to open the chamber was known as Tom Riddle.

Still known as the greatest wizarding school, Hogwarts has flourished, taking on many students from many backgrounds. But, because of the fued between Salazar Slytherin and Godric Gryffindor so many years ago, there is still a deep rival planted into the students attending the school today.

Salazar Slytherin
One of the founders of Hogwarts, and the namesake of the House of Slytherin.

Tom Riddle
Also known as Lord Voldemort, a name he gave himself while attending Hogwarts. He was orphaned as a child, and first learned of his ancestry at the age of eleven. His father was a muggle and his mother, a witch. One of the greatest wizards of the time. Known to his clan of supporters, called Death Eaters, as the Dark Lord. All others in the wizarding world are afriad to speak his name, calling him “You-Know-Who”, “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named”, etc.

Severus Snape
Attended Hogwarts as a child, and had a strong rivalry with James Potter and Sirius Black. Being a very talented potions master, he was given the job of teaching potions at Hogwarts, but actually yearned for the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. In Harry’s sixth year he was finally given the job of teaching D.A.D.A. He is a “reformed” Death Eater, but is still suspected of having ties to the Dark Lord to the present day. He was considered to be working as a double agent, spying on the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters, for the Order of the Phoenix. After a lengthy battle in the school, Severus used an Unforgivable Curse on Professor Dumbledore, and fled Hogwarts, Death Eaters in toe.

Lucius Malfoy
Attended Hogwarts as a child and comes from a pureblood family. He was a very important person in magical society, and was extremely rich. He is a known Death Eater, and was captured in the Ministry of Magic and imprisoned at Azkaban.

Draco Malfoy
Son of Lucius Malfoy, and current student at Hogwarts. Draco is the ring leader in a gang of Slytherin students and, some assume, is in a relationship with fellow Slytherin student, Pansy Parkinson. Draco’s cronies include Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle, both boys parents are suspected of being Death Eaters. Draco’s archenemy, Harry Potter, is suspicious of his ties to the Dark Lord. At the end of his sixth year he attempted to kill Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts. He was last seen running away from the school, followed by Voldemort’s Death Eaters.

Bellatrix Lestrange
Known Death Eater, convicted of using an Unforgivable Curse on the Longbottoms, aurors for the Ministry of Magic. Escaped, along with nine other convicted Death Eaters from the wizarding prison Azkaban. Considers herself to be Voldemorts most loyal servant. Murdered escaped convict Sirius Black who is, coincidently, her cousin.

Phineas Niggellus
Past Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Known as one of the least favorite headmasters of the school. Related to the noble Black family.

Horace Slughorm
Potions master at Hogwarts in the 1970’s - 1980’s, he again took up the post when Severus Snape was moved to teach D.A.D.A. Partial to those students who he sees as having potential in life, he invites them to join what is known as the Slug Club.
